Update on recent incidents and police activity near the Boston campus

Over the past 10 days, four unrelated violent crimes have taken place near Northeastern’s Boston campus. While these incidents have not taken place on campus, they can understandably cause concern and anxiety for members of the university community.

Some key facts:

• It is important to emphasize that Northeastern's Boston campus is safe, supported by a robust public safety infrastructure and a great partnership with municipal law enforcement agencies.

• Other than one incident where the injured victim was a Northeastern student (who was treated and released from the hospital the same day), the other incidents involved individuals with no affiliation to Northeastern.

• The university’s police department (NUPD) works in close coordination with the Boston police (BPD).

• Both NUPD and BPD are increasing patrols on all sides of the campus, and we will continue to keep the Northeastern community informed when incidents occur.

• The university has safety escorts, including a shuttle bus service, available for students who want it as they travel between campus and their residences. 

  • The Loop Shuttle services 60 Belvidere Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a daily break from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Additional options include the RedEye for late-night transportation and 24/7 NUPD safety escort services via 617-373-2121

• Northeastern has 14 campuses with students participating in experiential learning programs all over the world. Our global safety infrastructure with a 24/7 hub that monitors global risks and security-related events to keep students, faculty and staff safe while traveling for university-sponsored programs.
