Update on Curry Student Center incident

Dear Students, Faculty, Staff,

Many of you woke up this morning to alert messages about a security incident that took place last night in the Curry Student Center on Northeastern’s Boston campus. We are writing this morning to provide more information about what happened, and to reassure our community that the campus is safe, the threat turned out to be false, and at no point was anyone’s safety at risk.

On Thursday night, shortly before 11:00 pm ET, an unidentified person called in a threat alleging that there were explosive devices in the Curry Student Center on Northeastern’s Boston campus. NUPD responded immediately in coordination with additional law enforcement agencies. Curry was evacuated and a thorough sweep of the building was conducted by police and canine units. We have now determined that the threat was fraudulent and there was never a danger to anyone on campus.

There is no reason to believe that last night’s incident was in any way connected to the incident in Holmes Hall on September 13th.

For students living in campus housing, Residential Life staff will have a presence in the halls today, and are available to engage in conversations with students and provide support. They will also have open office hours for students. Additionally, Cultural Center staff are available today for any students who wish to discuss these events.

Confidential counseling is available for students and staff. Students can contact University Health and Counseling Services located on Forsyth Street or by calling 617.373.2772.

Additionally, Northeastern University Health and Counseling Services (UHCS) has a 24/7 mental health support service called Find@Northeastern that offers students access to a licensed mental health clinician at any time from any location in the world by calling 877.233.9477 (U.S.), 855.229.8797 (Canada), +1.781.457.7777 (Intl.).

Student support is also available from the Center for Spirituality Dialogue and Service at 617.373.2728, and from the We Care team in Student Affairs at [email protected] or 617.373.7591.

Faculty and Staff can contact the Employee Assistance Program at 800.624.5544 or find more information at https://hr.northeastern.edu/benefits/wellness-life/.
